The island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii is home to the capital, Honolulu. This is by far the biggest and most populated island in the Hawaiian Island chain. The island itself is around 48 miles long and 31 miles wide at its widest point. Oahu is actually home to three official counties, Honolulu County, Hawaii County, and Kauai County. It is home to the state's only true city, Honolulu. In fact, in terms of land area (within the island Oahu), it is actually more than three-quarters urban. The rest of Oahu's real estate is used for things like military bases and wildlife refuges. Oahu is very tropical with a year-round temperature averaging about 80 degrees. The population is around 1.35 million.
There is a part of the island that nobody knows about; a place where the Oahu shacks and crowded streets are left behind. A place where the air is much fresher, a place where there are no freeways or traffic jams. This place is the eastern coast and it has a lot to offer Oahu residents.
If you drive along Highway 51, which runs parallel to the coastline (but normally many miles inland) you will start traveling through the most rural part of the city. Once past Kaneohe, Oahu-east begins. The population becomes smaller and the traffic begins to thin. Some residents head out of central Oahu for weekend getaways, while others seek a more permanent vacation home in Oahu east is perfect for those who want to live on Oahu year-round or as frequently as possible without having to sacrifice income and luxuries like traffic, freeways, shopping, and attractions.
